American Legion Argonne Post 56
Sherwood, Oregon
Veterans Still Serving America

Located in Sherwood, Oregon, The American
Legion Argonne Post 56 received it's charter on August 10, 1920. The first Post
56 Commander was Clyde Hedges. The last great battle of WWI
gave Argonne Post 56 it's name. In the fall of 1918 General John
J. (Black Jack) Pershing led the 1st American Army in the fierce, bloody
battles at Saint-Mihiel and the Argonne sectors. It was here that
young George S. Patton was wounded and was awarded the Verdun Medal, and that Sergeant
Alvin York earned the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Argonne Post 56 supports many local and Veteran charities
including the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Our local schools,
families in need, Veteran
organizations, and many more.
We host and participate in many events during each year
including our Annual Charity Auction, holiday food baskets, Christmas
toys for kids, Annual Horseshoe Tournament, Robin Hood Festival, the
Annual Sherwood Cruise-in (classic car show), and several club
events every month (see the Post calendar).
Each month the Post hosts a pool League, shuffleboard tournament, and
several food events. Our dartboard and outdoor horseshoe pits are almost always
available. The club offers a big-screen (8 by 12 feet) to watch
sports events, NASCAR races, and more. We are truly an "American Legion
Family."
